Cosmin Costinas
Cosmin Costinaş (born 1982) is curator at BAK, basis voor actuele kunst since early 2009, where he curated the exhibitions I, the Undersigned by Rabih Mroué; expo zero (together with Boris Charmatz and Martina Hochmuth); and Surplus Value by Mona Vătămanu and Florin Tudor. He co-edited (with Jill Winder) the first monograph on the work of Vătămanu and Tudor (2009). Costinaş studied art history and history at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca. He is an advisory board member of PATTERNS/ERSTE Foundation, Vienna. Costinaş co-curated (with Ekaterina Degot and David Riff) the 1st Ural Industrial Biennial, entitled Shockworkers of the Mobile Image, Ekaterinburg, 2010, and was an editor of documenta 12 Magazines, Kassel/Vienna in 2005-2007. He co-authored the novel Philip (2007) and has contributed his writing to numerous magazines, books, and exhibition catalogs across Europe and South East Asia. Other recent curatorial projects include: After the Final Simplification of Ruins. Forms of historiography in given places, Centro Cultural Montehermoso Kulturunea, Vitoria-Gasteiz, 2009; The Demon of Comparisons, Electric Palm Tree, Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam (SMBA) and University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, 2009; Like an Attali Report, but different. On fiction and political imagination, Kadist Art Foundation, Paris, 2008; and Textground, Display Gallery, Prague, 2004. Costinaş lives and works in Amsterdam and Utrecht.
